Ideally, alcohol should be avoided in the initial phases of your SIBO treatment.  The various SIBO diets have slightly differing opinions regarding alcohol, for instance, according to the SIBO Bi-Phasic Diet, small amounts of clear spirits can be re-introduced later in treatment.  However it’s important to remember that alcohol is a toxin and will put extra pressure on the liver and digestive system.

Given that your digestive system is already compromised, you may like to consider eliminating it completely during your treatment to give your body a better chance at healing from SIBO.  If you feel that complete abstinence is impossible, choosing low sugar and carbohydrate alcoholic beverages is preferable, and keeping your consumption to a minimum.
