I did two weeks of antibiotics and my methane went down but my hydrogen doubled. My doctor said she has seen this before. I’m worried. I am finishing my second round of antibiotics and will retest this week. Any reassurance would be greatly appreciated.
Hi Bernadette
The critters that make methane require hydrogen to do so. So when we kill off the methane critters, it’s very common to see the hydrogen levels increase. This is because no one is eating that gas anymore. So it’s actually a sign of improvement, and nothing to worry about it.
Kind regards
Rebecca
HI, This is very interesting and helpful! I notice that for the breath test I am to stop antibiotics for at least 2 weeks. Does that include herbals types such as Berbers?
Hi Lorna
SIBO Test, Australia’s leading SIBO testing facility, advise patients to stop herbal antimicrobials (eg. berberine) 1 week prior to testing. They recommend antibiotics use is ceased 1 month prior to testing.
Kind regards
Rebecca
Thanks for pulling everything together for me as I try to understand my condition and work with a naturopath trained by Dr Jacobi.
